The Old Empire[/size] Kaius Kellryia has made the Proclamation of Sovereignty: All lands belong to his bloodline. With no way to actually enforce this, he mandates the enlistment of every able-bodied man to push across the frigid tundra in hopes of finding a better place to make his throne. Met with resistance by virtually all of the other beasts, the humans are at odds with virtually all of the savages and in disagreement with the other civil races. An all out war stains the snow red and survival is much more than just a full belly and a warm fire...Campaign: The Old Empire Setting: Kellryia Ruleset: Pathfinder (D&D 3.5 revision) Starting Level: 1 Ability Scores: Standard; Page 15 of the Pathfinder manual; You may always scrap the first set if it is unsatisfactory. -- Record all of your rolls, in either case; Maximum and Minimum stat mods will be enforced Starting Equipment: Standard; Page 140 of the Pathfinder manual Hit Points: Maximum at level 1, you may always take average, rounding up. While in Shalryst, Finnian would like to trade in his Shortbow on a Longbow. He'd also like to find a place to purchase scroll-making materials, as well as spells if possible.

Claire has a mithril holy symbol of Alton made along with 500 gold worth of jewels embedded into it and in the necklace. She has this sent to King Kaius along with a note.
Your Majesty,
I write to discuss a matter of great importance, suitors for my brother Lord Desmond Whidmoore and myself. It is past time that we each have been married and I plead to you to consider our suits.
Desmond has had difficulty finding a suitable young lady to marry. Perhaps you know of a suitable wife for him.
I myself have a person in mind to marry, but Desmond has other plans for me. The law currently prohibits me from marrying my choice, a Snow Elf of good rank and position. Your Majesty might value such a decision to strengthen ties with Shallys.
I do not wish to disobey Desmond, I beg you to arrange my marriage.
Your humble servant, Lady Claire Whidmoore
-----------------------------------
Lady Whidmoore,
I do not wish to be the bearer of bad news, but it is perhaps that you are ill-informed of the matters of Shallys. It is not me that is preventing the marriage between the two nations, but alas the Shallysian nobles are far too proud to admit that some of their own linger emotionally with the young human race. I have been trying my best to persuade them, but other matters have taken priority.
I have noticed that the young Lady Ashwood has come of age and has been attending court, perhaps if I introduce the two next time Desmond visits, he'll be otherwise distracted. It is all I am able to do at this time. I'll have a courier ask for his presence, perhaps to participate in the Wendigo hunt.
May Alton Shine Light on your Path.
King Kaius Kellryia

To Lady Claire Whidmoore,
Your brother requests your presence, when you get the opportunity, at Deepstone Dale. You no doubt have heard of me, but if you have not, I am the local mayor of Deepstone City and the owner of four banks in the surrounding region. I enjoy breeding horses, Desmond tells me you are quite fond of them. Should you wish to see them, or me, I will make myself available.
Regards, Lord Alfus Suffolk
-------------------------------
Dear Lord Suffolk,
Of course I have heard of you, my Lord. My brother Desmond has told me a little about you, and I am indeed interested to learn more about you. I would very much love to meet you and your horses. After visiting my brother recently, my travels bring me close to your residence, and I will certainly accept your invitation. Hopefully I can convince my companions to accompany me and arrive within a week's time.
Respectfully yours, Lady Claire Whidmoore
-----------------------------
Lady Claire,
I am pleased to receive your prompt response. I have a gift for you when you arrive, please go to the White Gate and ask for me personally, I have given the guards information to expect your arrival.
Regards, Lord Alfus Suffolk

My love,
I apologize for the tardiness of my response but I've been held up in Shallys Vevir. The aloof and arrogant nobles will not give up their foolish pride to allow marital arrangements between snow elves and humans. I've convinced one of the three in the High Council, all I need is a few more favors and I may have this one won. King Kaius is already convinced that it will strengthen the bond between our two countries, but the elves don't think it will change anything.
I know I have personal reasons for doing this, you of all people know this, but just hold fast and be strong. It's only a matter of time, I love you so much, my darling. When it is time, you know I will wed you.
Yours truly, Leonas
------------------------
My dear Leonas,
Desmond has already arranged for me to meet nobles from the Aldenshire area, and I'm receiving several invitations from other nobles in Kellryia. Desmond is focused on finding the best match that would advance our family. Is there any way that you can talk to him, keeping this in mind? He would want to know your finances and any connections you have if he is to be convinced. I would gladly marry you even without Demond's permission, but I cannot stop him from arranging a match with someone else before the law is passed.
Love, Claire
-----------------------------------
Dearest Claire,
I will be headed to Kellryia soon, I will do my best to provide a distraction for Desmond. I've a rather rich lady-friend that might persuade Desmond to focus more on Shallys, a favor she owes me. Give it a week or so, but try to be as indecisive as possible, perhaps even show some specific one some attention to make it seem as if you are playing along, by then, I'll have begun my diversion.
It will only be a matter of time until you and I are together.
Yours truly, Leonas

Dear Lady Claire Whidmoore,
We had met once in Blackfern two years ago, I do not recall if you remember, but your father introduced us. I must admit that my motivations behind writing to you have ulterior motive, but I have to admit, your beautiful hair and lustrous eyes were enough to stop most men in their tracks. If you don't mind, the next time you are in Kellryia, write to me and I will arrange for us some time together.
Yours truly, Earl VonStrossenburg
------------------------------
Dear Earl VonStrossenburg,
Of course I remember meeting you, my lord. Of the possible suitors, I believe you are the most pleasing to the eye.
What ulterior motive do you speak of? I can only guess. If I assume correctly, I just might be inclined to accept.
I visit capital Kellryia occassionally, and I will surely contact you to meet each other once again when I am in town.
Until then, you have my permission to write me again.
With anticipation, Lady Claire
-----------------------------
Dear Lady Claire Whidmoore,
I much appreciate the compliment, although I have not convinced myself that it is true. I must confess, when I wrote the first letter, I was a bit green to writing as most of my life was spent leading my military battalion. The ulterior motive is best left to your imagination at this point, but pleases me to know you will be in touch.
It does startle me that you responded so promptly and so fondly, I heard rumors that you may be otherwise taken. It pleases me to know that gossip is untrue.
Yours truly, Earl VonStrossenburg
--------------------------------------
Dear Earl VonStrossenburg,
You must be a brave man having been a military leader for so long. I would like to know your many war stories.
I am flattered that you wrote to me despite a rumor you heard I was spoken for. Determination is an admirable trait to possess.
My response was so fond because I felt from your letter that you perhaps could appreciate me, and I am looking for a husband that will take good care of me, both financially and emotionally.
Knowing your full name would please me greatly, so that we may converse more intimately.
Yours, Claire
-------------------------
Dear Lady Claire Whidmoore,
The tales I have are not heroic, as I've been told, I speak too plainly. Although perhaps it is just my audience that doesn't appreciate the stories. I do possess a substantial income from my position as a lieutenant in the Crimson Legion, and my father owns a substantial amount of iron mines, so I am certain I am able to take care of you.
You may call me Sabin, Sabin VonStossenburg. I find that so few address me by my first name that I forget to use it.
Yours truly, Earl VonStrossenburg

Dear sister,
It has come to my attention you've been communicating with a handful of Kellryian nobles, despite my suggestion to see Suffolk. I've heard rumors you are in Aldenshire, so I hope you are following my lead, but I sometimes worry. It is good to hear you are getting the chance to meet our future allies, they seem to be quite fond of us in many ways, but eager to point out our follies. I've recently been introduced to a Lady Ashwood, she is the daughter of a duke and although I haven't heard much of her, I'd request if you know anything about her to relay that information to me as soon as possible.
There's been some terrible mishap with a business acquaintance of mine and I hope he returns before the spring, I'm terribly unlearned in the best ways to use the lands I've just purchased. I hope you are better off than I, at the moment.
Sincerely, Desmond Whidmoore, Duke of Blackfern
------------------------
(Claire writes to Desmond, coding the message using linguistics.)
I fear that my correspondence is being read, but I needed to warn you. Nobles in Aldenshire are being poisoned, my host being one of the attempts. He has a man who inspects his food with magic, but there are forces that plotted to keep him preoccupied. I am to stay with Lord S. to make sure he is safe. Appoint a servant to inspect your food at once.
I do not know of Lady A. Though if I learn something, I will of course let you know.
I believe you should find a new business partner, brother. Perhaps one more trustworthy and of loyalist ties. It is not a good day for the reformers.
Do not worry, dear brother, I have only courteously declined the many gentlemen that have invited me to visit with them, apart from one. It is always good to keep one's options open.

After a courier leaves the estate Suffolk walks to the stables, where you admire the white mane of Frost. Suffolk chuckles, "We have dinner guests in three days time, Lord Vadnais and his wife, as well as Lord Colinbrad. Should be a delightful evening. We're going to open a rather aged vintage, as well."

Claire lets her new horse get used to her and strokes her nose. "That sounds lovely. I'm not familiar with the local lords, could you tell me about our- I mean your guests?" Claire smiles with embarrassment at her slip, which she did on purpose.

Claire smiles with embarrassment at her slip, which she did on purpose. Suffolk smiles at the 'our' comment, "Colinbrad is a well-to-do land owner, he has quite an investment in this idea called the 'aqueduct' he'll tell you all about it. You may like him, he's closer to your age... a it haughty, but he's got a sense of humor. The Vadnais couple... they're also funny, but in a different way. Lady Vadnais owns at least a dozen cats and Lord Vadnais is awful with money, so he constantly has to pull from his bank, which I own. That's actually how I met him, currently he needs to make another withdrawal, you'll likely hear about it over dinner. We'll be having a stew, we have some rare Adarran spices, I'm sure you'll love it."
