I think we should try to make a moba game team.
Either League of Legends or Dota 2 (ROFFLES HEROES OF NEWEARTH)
I have some Dota 2 keys if people need. League is free. So will Dota 2 be, but its technically in a closed beta, despite the keys being piss easy to get.
My reasoning: Some of my fondest memories of our college WoW days were all of us in the apartment PVPing. Multiplayer Online Battle Arenas (mobas) have some of the similar gameplay, without having 50 hours of grinding preparation (and no subscription free - both games are free). It may not be successful, but its worth a try.
Rough description of the differences between League and Dota
Dota 2 -
-Made by Valve, involves some of the original dota team
-Designed to be as close to the original DOTA mod as possible (including having odd AI behaviors that can be exploited)
-characters are designed off of the original DOTA characters, with minor changes and balances implemented.
-all characters are free from day one. currently 90+ characters in the game I think.
-only one instance of a character can be played in a game at a time (meaning if Team one picks Windrunner, Team two cannot also have a Windrunner.)
-Typically condsidered more in depth and complex, lots of tiny details and mechanics (such as denying)
League of Legends
-Made by Riot Games, I believe involves some of the original dota team, not sure
-designed to build upon the original DOTA mod while simplifying it and making it easier for new players to get into
-characters are completely new, some have obvious influences from original dota characters.
-Characters are purchased with either riot points (bought with real money) or influence points (earned by playing the game.) Characters typically cost less if bought with riot points. Characters only need to be purhcased once. Some characters are designated "free to play", with who is set to be Free to play rotated weekly, so characters can be tried out before purchased.
-only one instance of a character can be played PER TEAM (meaning both team 1 and team 2 can have one player playing Garen if desired.)
-While considered to have depth, typically considered more straightforward and less complex than Dota or Dota 2.
I persoanlly think LoL would go better with the friends we have (since if you find a character you like, you can -ALWAYS- play them, provided someone on your team doesn't select the character first). I've noticed our friends like to choose one character and try and master it. However, the fact that every character is available from the start on Dota 2 might be better for some of our friends. I'm for either choice.
