When it was first discovered by Imperial settlers in the 29th Millennium it was classified as a verdant agri world. However, around the time of the Horus Heresy, the rebel Iron Warriors legion--intending to destroy all potential resistance before landing--virus-bombed the planet from space, rendering it an inhospitable desert. Only then did the Chaos Space Marines land. Tallarn's few survivors emerged from their underground bunkers to stop the Iron Warriors' invasion.
Soon, reinforcements from both sides arrived. It became clear to the Imperial forces the futility of fighting over a destroyed planet but by then there was no turning back. Although it could not be guessed at the time, the Chaos legion were motivated beyond mere destruction. Since the poisoned environment made it impossible for infantry to operate outside of protective shelter, the only available option of battle was that of armored tank warfare. The largest tank battle in human history erupted on the surface of Tallarn. By the end of it, the Iron Warriors were defeated, and the wreckage of over a million tanks littered the sands.
Approximately twenty years after this, the official Tallarn Desert Raiders military force was formed. These regiments specialised in desert fighting, and were highly adept at ambushing enemy forces in the desert.
The Tallarn Desert Raiders continued their attack on various worlds which had turned to Chaos until sometime around the 30th Millennium, when they were recalled. The "Cursus," a Chaos relic of black stone which had led the Iron Warriors to the world was discovered deep under the desert sands. Immediately after finding this relic both Eldar of the Biel-tan craftworld and Iron Warriors spilled from the sky once more, to attempt to claim this relic. After months of fighting, the Eldar and Tallarn Desert Raiders formed an alliance and destroyed the Chaos forces.
After their combined victory over the Chaos hordes, both races exchanged their promises of friendship, before the Eldar departed in peace. The Tallarn re-entombed the Chaos relic beneath the sulphur sands and turned their backs on it.

Hubris, a planet located in the Helican Subsector, was named for the excessive pride of the colonists who founded a society there despite the harsh climate it offers. The planet was locked into an elliptical orbit around its sun which saw it icebound for 11 of the 29 month Solar Cycle. This period was known locally as Dormant and the majority of the population (99% of them in fact) entered cryogenic stasis in hibernation tombs to escape the cold. This was followed by Thaw, a period of feasting and activity designed to help overcome the effects of cryosleep and Vital, the normal active time of the planet. History
Founded at an unknown point in history, the original settlers had travelled to the world making use of cryogenic methods and techniques to get through the seventy year voyage. However, upon arriving in system they found to their dismay that they had been misled regarding the situation the planet was in - rather than a regular orbit and the standard season range this brought they were instead faced with a planet which spent a large amount of its existence swathed in ice. Depite this the settlers decided to make the planet their home.
In order to survive, the settlers stripped out the vast cryogenic chambers they had used during the long journey and installed them on the planet's surface. While the planet lay dormant under ice, so the population lay dormant in their individual chambers. A very small number of people stayed awake and active during this time (Dormant) in order to tend to the machinery and prepare for the reawakening (Thaw). These people lived in a place known as the Sun Dome, a habitat which was brightly lit by a plasma ball which simulated sunlight. This artificial sunlight was overly strong however, leading the savant Uber Aemos to speculate that this was done to compensate for the feeling of perpetual night the denizens suffered otherwise.
It was on Hubris that Inquisitor Gregor Eisenhorn killed the heretic Murdin Eyclone, who was attempting the bodily resurrection of the infamous Pontius Glaw with the mass murder of cryosleepers. This was the start of the chain of events that marked Eisenhorn's slide into the path of the radical.

Gorgon was eventually driven from the world, but not before it was almost completely consumed by Ripper swarms.
Gorgon, unique for its ability to rapidly evolve its bioforms, first attacked an orbital perimeter outpost of Sha'draig in 980899.M41, then continued on to the shipyards of Sha'draig's moon. Initially the defenders sealed themselves in the main complex and trusted in the shipyard's interceptor guns to hold the invaders back, but soon an adapted strain of Gargoyle with a refractive mucous coating that lessened the damage from interceptor fire overwhelmed the shipyards and slaughtered its remaining defenders. The Kel'shan Sept fleet was sent to investigate the outpost's silence. But by the time it arrived in 420990.M41, Sha'draig was already under siege by the Tyranids. Valroth's fleet broke through the Tyranid blockade surrounding the planet long enough to deliver reinforcements to the surface.
On Sha'draig, Hormagaunts assaulted the Tau outer defence lines in the nearby forests, which Shas'el Vorcah had filled with Kroot auxiliaries directed by Shaper Pechallai. However many of the Tyranid creatures ended up entangled in the forest's undergrowth where the Kroot could easily dispatch of them. Gorgon's next wave was of new Hormagaunts adapted to be swifter and less prone to being entangled, but they were also eventually stopped by the brute force and tenacity of the Kroot. A final wave, consisting of Hormagaunts honed to pierce and tear Kroothide, ultimately swamped Pechallai's defences. The Hormagaunt's adaptions however had weakened their own resistance to injury and so when they emerged from the forests, the Tau defenders quickly gunned them down.
Gorgon's cycle of adaptation began again, and soon Hormagaunts and Termagants were deployed with close to total immunity to Pulse rifle fire. These creatures overrun the main settlement of Sha'draig, forcing Shas'el Vorcah to withdraw his forces to the mountains. The Tau, in response to the creature's resistance to their current weaponry, sent Stealth Teams to recover the Kroot rifles from Pechallai's fallen defences and distribute them amongst Vorcah's surviving Fire Warriors. The enemies responses to each other continued, with the Tau racing to develop new technology and weapons and the Tyranids breeding new biological creatures with ever more suitable adaptions. At one point Gorgon spawned Hormagaunts and Gargoyles with chameleonic hides to blend in with their surroundings, making them all but hidden to the Tau except for their Battlesuit sensors.
In 843901.M41, Supreme Admiral Kor'O'Vanan deemed the situation on Sha'draig irretrievable and ordered a withdrawal. His fleet broke through the blockade and attempted to evacuate all the surviving ground forces, but Vorcah remained behind under the guise of covering the retreat. However his true intention was to continue the fight with a series of suicide missions to break the Tyranid Synapse web, for the Tau had learnt that Gorgon's rapid adaptation was forcing it to rely on smaller, less complex organisms able to be quickly bred and so it had relatively few larger creatures. Vorcah's tactic was successful and eventually drove Gorgon from Sha'draig, but not before it had been almost completely consumed.

It is the domain, headquarters and principal Forge World of the Adeptus Mechanicus.
The "Red Planet" as it is called, is acclaimed as a wonder of the galaxy. In the early 22nd century it became the first planet to be terraformed by humans. After being made habitable, the planet was settled by industrial cartels, and it soon developed into the first hive world and a center of industry and scientific advancement.
In the Age of the Imperium, Mars is home to untold billions of servitors and the Cult Mechanicus tech-priests, the devoted servants of its techno-arcane Machine God. The planet is covered in sprawling hives reaching miles into the Martian sky and their foundations delving deep into the planet's core. Orbital factories circle the equatorial belt, their ceaseless industry forming a glowing halo around the planet.
Mars is the home of the mightiest fleet in the Imperium, the Battlefleet Solar; above the equator vast space docks float in geo-stationary orbit. Mars serves as the Segmentum fortress of Segmentum Solar, and is the home world of several Titan Legions, including the Legio Ignatum.
Some rumours tell that the C'tan the Void Dragon resides deep under Mars' surface. Another rumour, though strictly rejected by the Iron Hands, says that Ferrus Manus survived the Isstvan V massacre and now resides on Mars.

It was infiltrated by Genestealers under the guise of the Cult of the Emperor's Light. Apparently from there the cult had eventually infiltrated the entire Gehenna system, and were finally destroyed by a force of the Space Wolves.1, 4
Gehenna Prime was also the site of an Ork invasion. During the war most of the Orks besieging the hive world's capital hive were drawn off by Imperial Guard armored companies under the command of Colonel Born Tahal. This allowed Imperial reinforcements to land at the capital and break the siege a few weeks later.
Tahal's adversary was the Ork Warlord Hargluk, the commander of the entire invasion. The Imperial army consisted of Legio Metalica Titans supported by Blood Angels Space Marines.
