Mertylmane's Road
Calorya is split in a three-way civil war with the other factions. The Northern branch, where you live, and the western and southern branches. The southern army makes advances into Northern Calorya [pronounced Kal (rhymes with pal) - or - yuh (rhymes with duh)] The King, who resides in Nothenvelle, has been sending supplies and such over the tundra to the eastern side of Calorya, in hopes of delivering fine weapons and equipment, but none of these ever manage it alive. The King gives rewards for poaching evil humanoids, 5 sp per goblin head, 2 gp per orc or hobgoblin head, 9 gp per ogre head, but this doesn't stop the attacks.
In desperation, the King calls upon a known group of heroes to accompany a team across a disused road to deliver their largest supply shipment yet.
Requirements 4-6 Adventurerers of level 7 - 28 point buy - Standard races, standard and supplemental classes allowed - 18k gp of equipment - You will not allowed to purchase items after the starter town - Spend no more than 9k on a single item It is going to be cold, think Frostburn A few martial characters are suggested 'Wilderness Lore' of some sort might be appreciated
Bannings: To prevent min/maxing and metagaming, Energy Substitution: Fire is banned. Standard bannings as well: Evil, Apostle of Peace, Frenzied Berserker, Warhulk, Hulking Hurler etc...

Caloria is a kingdom besieged by war for six long years. The Coalition continues its attacks against the northern nation and Caloria has tried desperately to fend off the attackers, but hope seems to be dwindling for Caloria. With their resources nearly spent, the scheming lords of Feldlyn, Bythamar, and Vilnar have devised a final tactic to break Caloria's defenses.
The five of you have been spending the winter in an inn called 'The Northern Star' when your peaceful stay is interrupted. The Thane of Nothenvell, Elgin, has arrived.
He smiles warmly and greets you with a long speech:
"I have a proposition for you. As you know, Nothenvell is on the western end of an old road that stretches east to the port of Karlsfjord. With the lines of battle constantly shifting in the south, a route that might be friendly one day could be hostile the next. Due to these peculiarities of war, old Mertylmane's Road has, of late, become useful again. Unfortunately, the need for this route comes during the worst winter in a generation.
Until now, Mertylmane's Road was merely a curiosity, traveled by adventurers such as yourselves or felons heading to sea. A patrol is rarely sent along the road, never more than a day past the fork. It has fallen into disrepair and become a common passageway for marauding goblinkin."
He sighs and orders a round of drinks for all of you, the innkeeper knows what you like most, and after dropping a pair of platinum coins on the table, the half-orc innkeeper grins and quickly fetches your beverages.
"The road runs through some of the roughest, least civilized land in all of Caloria. We've had no choice but to send caravans through regardless. Adventurers and mercenaries have hired on to protect them through this rough country. Still, nearly all of these caravans have been attacked. We have heard nothing from fully one-third of the expeditions that left here. There gave been reports of wildmen seen along the road. You used to hear old timers and foresters telling tales of encounters with wildmen in the mountains north of Gyhldeptis' Shield. If these wildmen really exist, then I've no doubt this hellish winter has driven them farther south, just as it pushed wolf packs down onto use from their usual hunting grounds in the north. Whether or not wildmen exist, sometning is keeping those caravans from getting through."
The beverages arrive, he takes a long sip and says at length, "You have made a good reputation for yourself here. I want to enlist your help in opening that road. Whoever helps us bring that territory back under control will find themselves in a favorable light. They'll make themselves know to powerful people ... the kind of people who control things like land grants... and titles... "
He looks at all of you expectantly.
