Actually, I played it for an hour and went to bed. Honest.
Probably not going to play it long today either. Still not going to class at all today, although for different reasons. It may just be my imagination, but I feel like, 500 years behind on my work for all my classes, I think an artifact from so many group projects (since you're inevitably going to be behind in progress on a group project, or someone in your group is. I think it's a Murphy Law), but whatever, I'm still freaking out. So today I'm just gonna not go to class and make up for it by getting at least a day ahead in all of my homework. I'm feeling kinda nerdy, so I may prep my shit for this campaign while I'm at it.
I need to go over everyone's character with a fine tooth comb, but I saw no major problems. I'd check your skills Cliff, I think you have one too many (I'll recheck later, but I remember Jedi getting 2 trained skills, I believe you have 3.) Also, I'm going to be talking to each individual, preferrably through AIM although some of you I guess I need to play private message tag on this board in order to establish where you are at the start of the campaign and why. I said it before, we're not all starting in a bar waiting for shit to happen. you're all going to be where you are for a reason, and I have a few reasons in mind for a few of you, but we still need to resolve that.
Since everyone is (jokingly) talking about Halo 3, I guess I can give a first impression here. It seems neat. I'm having some issues readjusting to the controls again, since I both am A) really really really really out of practice using a controller for a FPS. Seriously. I bet Brett would give me a run for my money in Halo right now, and that's saying something. The fact that the controls have been altered (radically) doesn't help this, as my brain is stuck in Halo Legacy mode it seems. I do think the controls are a change for the good however, I just need to get with the program and adapt.
Gameplay is good, although I am dying. A lot. Between the weapon revisions and the new Covenant AI, I'm getting my butt handed to me soundly. It seems like the Brutes fight differently than the Elites, and I haven't yet picked up on their strategies. Most of their weapons have indirect fire capabilities (Read: New and Improved model Brute Shot Death.), so I also have to figure out a new way to find cover, 'cause with my current method, I dive around a corner after a skirmish in a fight and soundly die as 3 grenades get launched at my feet. I have not tried out online play. I did dick around in Forge for 20 minutes, but it ended up being mostly me baseball bating warthogs around the map using the Gravity hammer and going, "Ooooo, I like this weapon."
Graphics are good, although something seems off about them. I can't place my finger on it yet. I kinda miss the Beta graphics, since they were really easy to see everything, and I'm having trouble picking out units at distances. That may be me being tired last night. Also, the GUI I now hate, when in the Beta I loved it. Not sure why, also may change.
Storyline is, involved. Not quite sure how else to put it. It's kind of confusing and jumps around a lot, and basically demands that the player has done their research. If you haven't read all the books and such, it feels like, you're not going to know anything about what's going on. The actual storytelling itself feels less, lighthearted I guess. Seems for sure Cortana is going Rampant, there's a moment on early where the Chief falls off some big falling fireball of something or the other, and is presumed dead for a while after they find him, and the chatter of the marines seems darker. They bolster and jeer at the enemy less, and seem to be suffering PTSD from heavy combat. Again, I played it for only an hour (And analyzed it too much it seems. >_<), so I'm not sure where the story is going just yet. Cortana though, is totally going Rampant far as I can tell.
Gator, I use US Bank too. If you've found an ATM solution so that one doesn't have to pay 2 bucks everytime one wants to take money out, I would rock you like a hurricane for the secret.
Okay okay okay, back to Star Wars D20 guys, seriously. We have a barely used general chat for this stuff. : 3
